Drop-in Sessions

When can you visit us?

Freedom Centre’s drop-in sessions are a fantastic opportunity for social support and connection.

LGBTIQA+ young people can come together, meet new people, talk to our peer educators, get information and referrals, and just feel safe to be themselves. All sessions run 4:00-7.30pm in person (4:00-8:00pm online).

Over 18’s

A safe social space for LGBTIQA+ people aged 18 to 25. This session is also open to our 17-year-olds who attend Under 18s to help them transition to a new age group.

This is a free space for young people to engage with others in their community, get support from peers, and have access to resources relevant to them. In these sessions we hang out, play games, have deep and meaningful conversations, create stuff, be queer and explore clothing and gender-affirming wear.

Under 18’s

This is a safe social space for LGBTIQA+ young people aged 12 to 17.

This is a free space for young people to be able to engage with others in their community, get support from peers, and have access to resources relevant to the LGBTIQA+ community.

In these sessions we hang out, play games, have deep and meaningful conversations, create stuff, be queer, and explore clothing and gender-affirming wear

Online

This drop-in runs online through Discord (a text-based chat platform), which makes it available for LGBTIQA+ young people all around WA.

We alternate our Online sessions between our Over 18’s and our Under 18’s. We talk over text in Discord, play games, share memes and selfies, and have some great chats (with the added benefit of all the gifs and emojis we can’t express irl).

GenderQ

A safe space for people aged 16 to 25, who identify with the trans, gender diverse or intersex community or are in any way questioning their gender identity.

Though this session runs pretty much the same as a standard Over 18’s session, extra support and discussion are encouraged around topics related to gender and its exploration.

Who can come?

Young people (12-25) who identify within the LGBTIQA+ community (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans, Intersex, Queer, Questioning and otherwise diverse in sexuality and/or gender).

Drop-in sessions are free, and everyone is welcome any time we’re open, so long as you respect the centre and its people. We have some safe space responsibilities centred around this expectation of respect that we ask everyone to follow.

Family, friends and other support people are welcome to check out the space before or on the young person’s first session. Out of respect for the service, please refrain from attending the youth-only drop-in space beyond this. However, support workers are welcome to accompany young people whilst attending the space.
