Freedom Centre relies on the commitment and generosity of volunteers to keep our services going. We’re looking for passionate advocates of the LGBTIQA+ community to help us provide young people with peer-to-peer support, validation and encouragement.
We offer great opportunities for LGBTIQA+ young people to get involved, gain skills and experience, and, most importantly, have fun while making a difference among an awesome group of motivated, interesting and diverse young people!
The main role of our volunteers is to staff our drop-in sessions alongside our Peer Educators, where you will help support and connect with our visitors. We can also employ the help of volunteers for administration, special events and expos as well as other projects.
Who can volunteer at FC?
As we are a peer-based youth service, we are seeking volunteers aged between 18 and 30. If you’re part of the LGBTIQA+ community and think you’d be a great fit, but you fall just outside this age bracket, please reach out to see what we might be able to offer.
What does volunteering look like?
We aim for our volunteers to help at least once or twice a month, and to attend the monthly FC team meetings. We can be flexible depending on your skillset and schedule, with our Peer Support Mentor available to help get the most out of your time with us.
We require volunteers to attend an induction session at FC prior to commencing and will provide supervision and training for your first shift with us. We also provide suicide prevention training for all our volunteers, as well as offering various ongoing opportunities for training and development related to the wellbeing of LGBTIQA+ youth.
Volunteers are expected to always uphold the rules and responsibilities of the Freedom Centre, and ensure our visitors are doing the same.
